We all know the importance of remote team building in dispersed teams. Without in-office interaction, employees can feel isolated and disengaged far too easily.

Culture has to be built intentionally and with real meaning. But how do we fit this in with everything else going on?

Especially at this time of the year. Oftentimes deadlines are fast approaching, every boss wants the project wrapped up before the holidays, and as a leader you’re just trying to keep the remote team glued together before they can all get a well deserved break.

So the trick here is, find meaningful ways to connect, on a strict time budget. Fortunately for you, we’ve got some great ways of achieving this!

  1. Item Guessing - Before your next meeting, send a message out to the group to take a photo of one item in their house. Everyone sends them to you and you then share them one at a time at the start of the meeting. The team have to guess whose is whose, and each colleague will raise their hand afterwards to show the team if they were right or not! This is great because:

    1. It takes only minutes to complete;

    2. Everyone learns something about one another;

    3. It guarantees smiles and breaks the ice just before the meeting.

  2. Background Challenge - Message everyone before the meeting to choose an image for their background. Then when you join the meeting everyone votes on their favourite background by raising their “real” hand. The winner gets an unmuted round of applause! This one rules because:

    1. It takes no time at all to prepare;

    2. It can be customised a lot (eg best Christmas background wins this weeks challenge!)

    3. It gets everyone motivated to have cameras on and be involved before the meeting starts.

  3. One word pass along - You say one word, then the next person says the next. The idea is to create a fun sentence together. Depending on your team size, you can get everyone to go round once, twice or three times. Why is this one great for remote teams?

    1. Inclusion. It gets everyone talking and listening from the start;

    2. It’s easy. No need for prep, just write the order of the team and you’re off;

    3. It can be hilarious. No one judges, but everyone smiles and it creates a great mood for the meeting.

  4. Guess the Sketch (Available on Teem Camp) - Since this game is on Teem Camp, setup is instant! You just get everyone to click join and you’re all on the game together in the platform, just like a fun Google Meet! Each colleague takes a turn to draw a selected object and their team has to guess what it is! This is such a great team-building exercise because:

    1. It’s on Teem Camo, so setup is instant;

    2. It comes in a mini-game form, which can be done 10 minutes before your next meeting;

    3. It guarantees laughter from everyone, while also getting the team ready to work together effectively.

  5. Human Bingo (Available on Teem Camp) - The great part about this game is that.. It requires no meeting at all! This game is completely a-sync, meaning colleagues can connect with each other without even having to be active at the same time, perfect for busy seasons! It works like this, you start a session on Teem Camp, then the platform generates random facts about everyone on the team. When you have a spare 30 seconds, you can go and click on a tile, then try to guess if the fact about your colleague is true or false! Then the colleague responds in their own time, with a simple click of the button. This one is a life saver for busy remote teams because.

    1. There is no need to schedule a specific period of time;

    2. Everyone gets to learn a little about each other;

    3. The whole team are connecting with each other and having tiny moments of fun throughout the week.

At Teem Camp, we look at culture building like going to the gym. If you go every day, even just for 10 minutes, you’ll see results. But if you go once every 3 months, even if it’s for 3 hours, you won’t see the same results!

Remote Team-Building must be consistent, but it doesn’t have to always be extravagant and take hours to develop!
